As of January 12, 2022, the Paraguayan government introduced new laws for entering the country in regards to Covid-19.
Here is everything you need to know!
***UPDATE: As of May 2022, you may now enter the country unvaccinated by showing proof of a negative Covid-19 test 48 hours before the departure of your first flight. The rest of the following rules remain in place.
What You’ll Need to Enter Paraguay in 2022
To enter Paraguay, everyone over 18 years of age will need to present proof of vaccination with at least 2 doses of a covid-19 vaccine.
You’ll also need to present proof of a negative covid test taken within 48 hours prior to your flight (RT-PCR; LAMP; NAAT). A negative antigen test is also accepted, but must be taken within 24 hours of your flight.
In addition to the above, you’ll need to fill out a health declaration form within 24 hours of your flight. You can find Paraguay’s traveler health information form here.
Finally, you’ll need a health insurance policy that covers covid-19 (Safety Wing is a good option).
NOTE: If you’re traveling from a MERCOSUR country (for instance, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia or Uruguay) you do not have to present a negative test.
Recap:
- Proof of vaccination (2 doses, unless it’s the one-dose J&J vaccine)
- A negative PCR or antigen test (up to 48 hours before your flight for the former; 24 hours for the latter)
- A completed and submitted traveler health information form
- Health insurance that covers covid-19

Are There Any Exceptions or Exemptions?
The above policy will apply to most foreigners looking to enter Paraguay.
That said, there are a few cases in which Paraguay will let you enter without a complete vaccination scheme and/or without proof of a negative test.
Let’s go over these now.
- Travelers under 18 years old are not required to show proof of vaccination
- Travelers under 12 years old are not required to show proof of a negative test
- Paraguayan citizens OR Paraguayan residents can enter the country without proof of vaccination
- Those with a medical exemption from the covid 19 vaccine may enter the country without proof of vaccination by showing proof of said medical exemption
- Those who have not been vaccinated due to humanitarian reasons may enter the country by showing proof of their exemption
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you intent to enter Paraguay with a vaccine exemption (medical or humanitarian) you must email viajerosbase at gmail.com and receive an approval prior to your trip. If you fail to do this, you may be rejected at the airport, or by Paraguayan customs.
If you fall into one of these categories and intend to enter Paraguay without proof of vaccination, you will be required to quarantine for 5 days. On the fifth day, you will be required to get a covid test. If the test is negative, you can end your quarantine. If it’s positive, you must quarantine for 5 more days.
Vaccinated travelers will not have to quarantine.
